Labsites
Improving Practice
NCSALL has established a network of two labsites: 1) ESOL labsite in Portland, Oregon, and 2) ABE labsite in New Brunswick, New Jersey. The role of labsites in adult education is to provide stable environments for conducting high quality research, facilitate close collaborations between researchers and practitioners, allow for systematic innovation, experimentation and evaluation of promising new instructional methods, materials and technologies, and create knowledge that improves our understanding of adult learning and literacy and improves practice.
NCSALL Labsites' goals:
- Conduct high quality research.
- Strengthen professional development systems.
- Disseminate research and professional development materials locally and nationally.
NCSALL Labsites' key characteristics:
- Form partnership between a research institution and a service delivery institution.
- Pursue systematic program of inquiry that is the result of joint planning between the two institutions.
- Include basic and applied research and use both quantitative and qualitative methods.
- Conduct rigorous learner outcome assessment study.
- Participate in NCSALL’s connecting practice, policy and research efforts.
- Participate in a network of labsites that supports sharing and mutual improvement.
